The Butte Central Cross Country Invitational, scheduled for Tuesday evening at Fairmont Hot Springs, has been cancelled because of poor air quality in the area.

"Knowing many schools have a long way to travel, we felt making this decision now was most appropriate," Central athletic director Chad Petersen said in an email shortly before 11 a.m. "Therefore, we have decided it is best to cancel today's meet. While we have no way of knowing what the smoke will be like later this afternoon, we are not comfortable gambling with the health and safety of over 300 student-athletes."
