HELENA – Rosters were announced this week for the 15th edition of the Shodair Soccer Classic all-star games, athletic contests that put together the best graduated seniors from the state on one field for a final time as high school players.

The all-star events, which will take place Saturday, July 26 at Carroll College’s Nelson Stadium in Helena, will be flush with Missoulians and athletes from across western Montana.

The Missoula Hellgate boys’ team, a fourth-place finisher last fall in the State AA tournament, is tied for the most representatives in the men’s game with five. Both Helena High and Billings Senior also have five boys in play.

Chaucer Larson will do the goal keeping for the West boys and is joined by Knights Kyle Higgins, Macky Scott, Yacir Allen and Ian Frank. Missoula Big Sky defender Kyle Barbian also accepted an invitation. His Eagles beat Hellgate in the state tournament to take third place last season.

A Missoula product is in net in the women’s game as well. Sentinel grad Jessica Henning is the only area girl in that game where Billings Senior dominates the roster. The Broncs have six players involved.

The surrounding area west of the Divide sent another handful of players including boys Haakon Sande of Kalispell Flathead; Tristan Baker of Frenchtown; Nathan Boone of Whitefish; Jason Schnackenberg of Libby; Cameron Ayers and Eli Carmona of Corvallis; and Chance Coleman of Stevensville. The latter three boys will suit of for the East side to balance the rosters.

Other area girls playing in the showcase include: Annie Sangster of Corvallis; Sami Kratofil of Hamilton; Hannah Dishman of Stevensville; Caroline Carbo of Whitefish; Kendall Halliburton and Madison Zirker of Kalispell Glacier; and Jacquelyn Merrill of Flathead. All are on the West’s roster.

The Classic is an event to benefit the Shodair Children’s Hospital. Shodair provides psychiatric services for children and adolescents from communities across the state, as well as comprehensive genetic services for people of all ages. Last year, the hospital provided more than $6.2 million dollars in uncompensated care for at-risk children.

In addition to having been selected as all-state and all-conference players in Class AA or A during last season, participants must have demonstrated academic achievement, leadership and citizenship.

The Classic also features coaching staffs from around the state. After leading the Bozeman boys to a State AA title last season, coach Hunter Terry is on board to coach the East against Carl Straub of runner-up Helena. In the girls’ game, Megan Parish of the State AA champion Senior Broncs is at the helm of the East team against the West’s Mike Meloy of second-place Helena.

Prior to the games, the athletes will also host aspiring all-stars in a free clinic for children ages 5 to 12 on July 25 at 10 a.m. at Nelson Stadium. Then comes the main event with games beginning the next evening. The girls play at 5 p.m. with the boys to follow at 7.
