GREAT FALLS — The Missoula Jr. Bruins hockey team squandered a second-period lead Friday in dropping a 4-2 decision to the Great Falls Americans at the Great Falls Iceplex.
Missoula fell to 2-3 in NA3 Hockey League Frontier Division action. The first-place Americans boosted their record to 5-0.
After Great Falls broke on top with a goal in the first period, the Jr. Bruins answered in the second. Misha Akatnov scored an unassisted goal while his team was short-handed with just under 4 minutes elapsed in the period. Akatnov scored less than two minutes later on assists from Hayden Moistner and Rhys Cottle.
The Americans knotted the score at 2-2 with just under 9 minutes left in the second period. They scored what proved to be the game winner at 4:57 in the third period, with Matt Janke taking advantage of a power play opportununity. The Americans later added an insurance goal.
The Jr. Bruins will try to get back on track Saturday when they play at Helena at 7:05 p.m.
