MISSOULA — The Missoula Bruins boys' varsity hockey team opened the Missoula Holiday Classic with a win Friday night and a tie Saturday morning.

Bill Lucas notched a hat trick and added an assist as the Bruins opened play Friday night by beating West Sound, Washington, 5-1. Ian Checota scored Missoula's other two goals; Thad Kendrick has three asissts and Braden Schreckendgust and Henry Ledyard each had an assist. Missoula goalie Sam Miland made 13 saves.

On Saturday afternoon, the Bruins tied Jackson Hole (Wyoming) 4-4. Kendrick, Schreckendgust, Zach Hangas and Branson Nelson each scored a goal; Kendrick and Lucas were credited with one assist each while Henry Charman made two assists.

The Bruins were scheduled to close out pool play late Saturday night. The semifinals and championship game are scheduled Sunday.
