KALISPELL — The Missoula Lady Bruins U19 hockey team beat Salmon (Idaho) 3-1 and Piikani (Alberta, Canada) 1-0 in the frigid and windy winter storm Friday at the outdoor Woodland Ice Center.

Freshman Waverly Winterer scored two goals in the morning game against Salmon and sophomore Ellie Jenni also scored. Assists were credited to Maddy Gallagher and Jaden Nielsen, returning to action this weekend for the first time since a knee injury and surgical repair last spring.

The Lady Bruins played a nail-biter against the Lady Warriors of the Piikani Tribe, winning 1-0 in an afternoon snowstorm. Missoula senior Elise Marquardt scored the only goal with 2 minutes remaining on an assist by Sid Triepke. Missoula goalie Aubrey McKay had 14 saves.

The Lady Bruins improved to 10-2-2 and will face Juan de Fuca Saturday at 8 a.m. With wins again Flathead, Salmon and Piikani, Missoula will advance to the championship game at 4:15 p.m. Saturday.
