The Missoula Jr. Bruins posted their second straight win Friday, skating past the Helena Bighorns 5-2 in a penalty-riddled game at Glacier Ice Rink.

The Jr. Bruins piled up 15 penalties for 103 minutes and the Bighorns 12 penalties for 60 minutes. But while Missoula was 2 for 6 in power-play opportunities, Helena was 0 for 6.

The Bighorns enjoyed a fast start, scoring twice against goalie Brian Thomas in the first three-plus minutes.

The Jr. Bruins notched their first goal at 7:16 in the first period, with Misha Akatnov doing the honors on an assist by Tyler Prince. Roughly 10 minutes later, the hosts knotted the score on a power-play goal by Vadim Zubkov.

Missoula took its first lead on a power-play goal by Cameron Cunningham, assisted by Zubkov, at 10:37 in the second period. Akatnov and Zubkov added insurance goals later in the second period.

Helena finished with a 53-27 edge in shots. But Thomas was masterful in net for the hosts, making 51 saves.

The Jr. Bruins will again host the Bighorns on Saturday at 7:30 p.m.
