GREAT FALLS — After spotting the Great Falls Americans an early two-goal lead, the Missoula Jr. Bruins battled back to win in overtime, 5-4, Friday at the Ice Plex.
The Jr. Bruins pushed their record to 5-6-1 in the NA3 Hockey League Frontier Division. The loss by the Americans (9-1-2) was only their third this season.
Great Falls finished with a 39-27 edge in shots but Missoula was better when it mattered most.
Cody Dearing and Ben Rinckney each scored to give the hosts a 2-0 lead in the first period. Missoula came roaring back with three straight goals in the first 15 minutes of the second period by Parker Todd, Misha Akatnov and Ryley Cook.
Great Falls responded with a pair of power-play goals to claim a 4-3 lead heading into the final period. Isaac Vincent scored the equalizer with assists from Zach Jaffe and Cook at 11:50 in the third period.
Cameron Cunningham then picked the perfect time for his first goal of the night for the visitors. He lit the lamp with an assist by Josh Kirk at 1:35 in overtime.
The Jr. Bruins will battle the Americans again on Saturday night in Great Falls.
