GILLETTE, Wyo. — Misha Akatnov had a weekend to remember against the Gillette Wild at Spirit Hall Ice Arena.
On Friday he scored four goals in a blowout win by the Missoula Jr. Bruins. On Saturday he scored another two in a 6-2 win over the Wild.
Missoula evened its record to 4-4 in the NA3 Hockey League's Frontier Division. The Wild fell to 2-7.
Missoula took advantage of a power play opportunity in breaking on top in the first period. Rhys Cottle lit the lamp with just under 9 minutes left in the frame.
The score stayed at 1-0 until late in the second period. Austin Dennison doubled the Jr. Bruins' lead at 15:17 in the period, then Akatnov scored his first goal of the night just before the buzzer, with helpers from Trym Isaksen and Parker Todd.
Missoula stretched its lead to 5-0 before Gillette finally put a puck past Jr. Bruins goalie Brian Thomas. Missoula goals by Akatnov and Isaac Vincent in the first 13 minutes of the period were followed by Jack Oberg's score for Gillette on an assist from Brooks Mitzel.
The teams traded goals in the final two minutes. Cottle scored Missoula's third power play goal on an assist by Todd. Hunter Feagins rounded out the scoring with a goal for the Wild.
The Jr. Bruins will host the Yellowstone Quake on Friday and Saturday at 7:30 p.m. at Glacier Ice Rink.
