GREAT FALLS — Missoula Sentinel grad Dylan Schulte scored a first-round knockout in his mixed martial arts bout Friday night at Centene Stadium.
The event was the Intense Championship Fighting Fight Under the Lights. Schulte was pitted against Dakota Tackett of Kalispell in a battle of unbeatens.
The 21-year-old Schulte boosted his record to 4-0 while the 25-year-old Tackett fell to 4-1. Hungry for a title, Schulte also boosted his status to No. 1 challenger.
Schulte kept the fight on the feet and showed his improved striking. He slipping big punches, showing good head movement and kept a rhythm and pace that Tackett had trouble matching.
With 10 seconds left in the first round, Schulte found his Tackett's chin with an overhand right that dropped him. Schulte followed him to the ground with strikes as the referee waived the fight off with 7 seconds left.
Schulte was representing Missoula's Dog Pound Fight Team, which is coached by Matthew Powers.
