BOZEMAN — The Missoula Jr. Bruins earned their third win in four games Friday behind a monster night by Russian forward Vadim Zubkov.
Zubkov scored five goals and dished out an assist in an 8-5 win over the Bozeman Icedogs at Haynes Pavilion. The Jr. Bruins improved to 16-20 in NA3 Hockey League Frontier Division play.
Bozeman jumped in front early on a Duncan McGarrah goal, but Missoula followed with two goals by Zubkov and one by Misha Akatnov. The Icedogs cut their deficit to 3-2 on a power-play strike late in the first framef before Missoula answered with second-period scores by Zubkov and Clayton Littlefield.
Bozeman pulled within one once again with a pair of goals in the latter half of the second period. The last-place Icedogs (3-33) trailed 6-5 at the midway point in the final period before Zubkov lit the lamp with two insurance goals.
Both teams piled up 44 shots but Duncan Wiest showed himself to be the superior goalie with 39 saves for the Jr. Bruins.
The two teams will take to the ice at Glacier Ice Rink on Saturday at 7:30 p.m.
