BILLINGS - The Eastern AA Billings Scarlets pulled off a doubleheader sweep of the Western AA Missoula Mavericks in American Legion baseball at Cobb Field on Sunday, winning the first game 7-2 and the second 10-3.
In the first game, Kendall Selle and Chris Stinson each went 2-for-3 to lead the defending state champion Scarlets to a solid victory. Billings starting pitcher Stinson handcuffed to Mavs, hurling five strong innings to earn the victory.
"I tell you, the Scarlets are the best team we've played," said Mavericks coach Brent Hathaway. "There pretty good."
Before the first inning was complete in the nightcap, the Scarlets had sent nine men to the plate and had taken a 6-0 lead on six hits and heads-up base running. Selle went 3-for-3 with two runs driven in for Billings which improved to 16-5 on the season.
The Mavs fell to 18-5 overall on the young season.

Class A Mavs take two
The Class A Missoula Mavericks swept a doubleheader with the Helena Reps in an American Legion twin bill at Missoula's Lindborg-Cregg Field.
In the first game, Blake Honey drove in four runs to pace the Mavericks to a 15-5 win in a contest that was shortened to six innings due to the 10-run margin rule. Aaron Neilson whiffed five and allowedv two earned runs to get the victory and improve his record to 3-1. Jesse Corbett added two RBIs for Missoula.
In game two, Corbett walked two and struck out five as the Mavs earned a come from behind 6-4 victory. Honey drove in two more and Taran Kohler went 2-for-3 with two doubles and an RBI for the Mavs. Quinn Lasage had two doubles to lead the way for the Reps.

Red Sox win a pair
HAMILTON - The Bitterroot Red Sox opened their conference schedule with a pair of victories, 11-3 and 10-0 over the Salmon Mariners in a Class AA American Legion doubleheader.
Kyle Ihde and Bobby Louviere each went 3-for-4 with a double to lead the Red Sox to victory in the first contest. Daren Olson went the distance for Bitterroot, allowing six hits and improving his record to 2-1. Sean Cottrell went 2-for-4 to lead the Mariners.
In the finale, Louviere struck out 13 Mariners and allowed just one hit in a game shortened to five innings due to the 10-run margin rule. Louviere face just one batter more than the minimum. Kyle Melton and Ihde each went 2-for-3 for the Red Sox. Bitterroot to 9-7 overall and 2-0 in the conference.

Mission Valley, Libby split
POLSON - The Mission Valley Mariners and the Libby Loggers split two games in Class A American Legion baseball action.
Mission Valley's Tyler French went 4-for-4 with a triple, a home run, and seven RBIs in the day's first game as the Mariners rolled to a 15-5 win in a game shortened to five innings due to the 10-run margin rule. Justin Bykari added a double and three RBIs and Shane Morigeau slammed a second inning homer for the M's. French fanned five in earning the win.
In the second game, the Loggers shutout Mission Valley, 6-0. Nate Herbig went the distance for the Loggers, scattering seven hits over seven innings. The Loggers blew open the game with a four run seventh inning. The Mariners dropped to 10-8 after the weekend's action.

FLORENCE - The Bitterroot Bucs took both halves of a non-conference doubleheader against the Mission Mountain Rockies, 10-3 and 12-2, in Class A American Legion action.
In the opener, Bitterroot catcher Jason Perez went 3-for-4 with three RBIs as the Bucs cruised to a 10-3 victory. Cody Person drove in two for the Bucs and starting pitcher Evan Ringel went six innings to notch his fifth victory without a loss. Drew DuMont went 2-for-4, but also took the loss for the Rockies.
In the nightcap, Aaron Harshbarger went 2-for-3 with three RBIs and pitched five strong innings as the Bucs pounded the Rockies in a game shortened to six innings due to the 10-run margin rule. Chad Henderson and Leo Hansen each drove in two runs a piece for Bitterroot. The Bucs improved to 14-3 after the day's games and open their conference schedule with a twin bill at Hamilton on Saturday.
