Big fourth quarter carries Arlee past St. Regis

Missoulian POLSON - Three girls provided all of Arlee's scoring Saturday as the third-seeded Scarlets, roaring back in the fourth quarter, upset top-seeded St. Regis 72-61 for the District 14-C girls' basketball championship at Linderman Gym.

Arlee (14-6) advanced to the Western C divisional, starting Thursday in Helena.

The second divisional berth will be determined Monday at 7 p.m., when St. Regis (15-5) meets Charlo (16-5) in a challenge game at Linderman.

Charlo earned the right to challenge by defeating Noxon 43-27 for the consolation crown.

Arlee 72, St. Regis 61: Arlee trailed 48-39 entering the fourth period, but outscored St. Regis 33-13 to claim the trophy.

Sophomore guard Ashley Miles led Arlee with 27 points, followed by freshman guard Missy Tiensvold with 23 and junior center MacKenzie Barger with 22.

The three players combined to make 19 of 21 free throws in the fourth quarter, and 22 of 28 for the game.

Tiensvold and Barger each hit 3-pointers during the rally, while Miles made 10 of 11 free throws. Tiensvold hit six 3-pointers on the evening.

Junior center Mandy Stevens had 25 points for St. Regis, the defending district champ. Senior forward Amanda Barber chipped in 19 points before fouling out.

St. Regis led 19-13 after one quarter and 31-26 at halftime.

Charlo 43, Noxon 27: Freshman Shianne Perry and sophomore Crystal Kain each scored 10 points as Charlo won the consolation title. Charlo led 33-20 after three quarters.

Nicole Thompson had nine points to pace Noxon, which closed its season at 5-16.
