Police find stolen truck belonging to man kidnapped at knifepoint

The stolen pickup truck of a man who was kidnapped and robbed at knifepoint Saturday at a Missoula gas station and casino was found on University of Montana property Sunday afternoon.

UM police discovered the white pickup with Western Montana College license plates parked in a lot at the south end of the Van Buren Street footbridge at about 1:15 p.m.

Although police reports are still sketchy, it appears the owner of the truck, a 31-year-old former Missoula man, was kidnapped by two knife-wielding men early Saturday morning.

The men forced the victim's head to the floorboard as they drove his truck to an unidentified rural area, said Missoula County sheriff's Sgt. Stan Fullerton. While in the woods, the two men forced the victim to strip, poured beer over him, and threatened to sexually assault him and kill him, Fullerton said.

As the two men were trying to find something to tie him up with, the victim told them he would give them all his money if they took him to the home he was staying at.

The two men drove the victim to a residential neighborhood in the Big Flat area where the victim said he was staying while in town for a wedding.

When they got out of the truck, the victim escaped from the men and ran naked, yelling for help through the neighborhood, Fullerton said.

The noise woke residents around 5:45 a.m. and they called 9-1-1. The two men sped off in the victim's truck.

The victim was robbed of about $70 but escaped with minor injuries.

The recovered truck will be dusted for fingerprints, said Missoula County sheriff Deputy Susan Hintz.

Authorities are looking for two men with the following descriptions: The first is described as a white male about 20 to 25 years old, 5-feet-9 and about 160 pounds. He has short dark hair and was wearing light-colored shorts and a black T-shirt.

The second man is white, 20 to 30 years old, about 6 feet tall and weighs around 200 pounds. He has very short, light-colored cropped hair. He was wearing a white T-shirt and blue jeans.
