Four voices

If one of your New Year’s resolutions involves a healthier diet of locally made music, you’d do well to swing by the Crystal Theater Friday, Jan. 2, where you can get four of Missoula’s best performing songwriters under your belt in one fell swoop.

The evening’s bill features a near who’s-who of local singer-songwriters, with (clockwise starting from left) Jenn Adams, Zoe Wood, Tom Catmull and John Floridis tag-teaming over the course of the night. The four will perform together for the first time ever, with each performing individually as well as “in the round,” trading songs.

With 10 albums between them, it’s doubtful that there’ll be a dull moment. Indeed, while the four could be lumped generally into the “contemporary folk” category, there are plenty of contrasts between their individual styles, from Catmull’s love for country music, to Wood’s bluesy leanings, to the fingerpicking fireworks of Floridis and the jazzy vocals of Adams.

All in all, it should make for a great way to start the new year. Tickets to the show, which begins at 8 p.m., are $10 in advance (available at Rockin Rudy’s) and $12 at the door. Missoula Folklore Society Members receive a $2 discount.
