Chad Steve

Ceramic artist Chad Steve's exhibition, "Inner Parks," is up through the end of the month at the Clay Studio of Missoula.

The barbecues, Bocce balls and picnic tables have come indoors for "Inner Parks."

The exhibition, up this month at the Clay Studio of Missoula, is resident ceramic artist Chad Steve's last before he departs for Florida.

But he's leaving on a light note with "Parks," which continues in his trompe l'oeil vein. Particularly keen is the wood-mimicking surface on the picnic table, which has the weathered, rough texture of a table that's seen its fair share of long winters and busy summers.

Steve is fond of repeated objects, which accounts for the multiple versions of a wall piece featuring a small barbecue, which he says is designed to stir the viewers' own memories and associations.

Equally charming is a physics-defying three-deep stack of over-sized Bocce balls in a greens, purples, blues and whites.

"Inner Parks" is on display in the Clay Studio's gallery at 1106 Hawthorne St. through Aug. 28.
