Students will perform original choreography next week in an unconventional setting, the open space in the PAR/TV Center.
"Dance New Works," features 16 original pieces and two separate programs from students in the University of Montana's School of Theatre and Dance (See the schedule for more information.)
Also included are solo pieces. Organizers say "real, immediate, and speaking from the heart of the choreographer/performer, these dance solos will engage the audience is subtle yet powerful ways."
The styles include contemporary ballet, hip-hop, lyrical, musical theater, dance for camera, and contemporary dance forms.
The choreographers are Kelly Bouma, Haley Budge, Emily Curtiss, Jessie Dettmann, Clare Edgerton, Aria Faddis, Jordan Freeman, Wyatt Guerrero, Arina Hunter, Kathryn Louise, Summer Morton, Emily Vascimini and Ellie Weinman.
The program gives special place to two MFA candidates, Bouma and Edgerton. Organizers say their work is "smart, commanding, and steeped in risk," and a piece by BFA candidate Ellie Weinman called “where we left it," that will be featured at a regional conference next month.
