The Hamilton girls' and boys' tennis teams claimed their second consecutive Southern A divisional championship Saturday afternoon at Corvallis and Hamilton.
It was an all-Hamilton finals in the girls' singles and doubles championship matches at the Corvallis courts. The Broncs ran away with the girls' team title, scoring 49 points. Dillon was next at 22 points.
Freshman Jessica Richter defeated her older sister Crystal 6-3, 7-6 (8-6) to win the singles title. Crystal won the state Class A singles crown in 1999 as a freshman.
In doubles, Hamilton's Dusty Williams and Erin Millar beat teammates Nicole Chaney and Rachel Chaney 6-2, 6-4 for the title.
It was a tight boys' singles final with Todd Kenley of Hamilton edging Dustin Frye of Corvallis 7-6, 7-6 at the Hamilton courts.
The Bronc boys' scored 36 points to earn the team title. Corvallis was next at 23 points.
Hamilton's Ryan Wells and Aaron Riley teamed up to win the doubles final 6-3, 6-4 over Stevensville partners Scott Barbian and Tanner Mullin.
The top four singles players and top four doubles teams advance to the state Class A tournament Friday and Saturday at Lewistown.
n Western A divisional: At Libby, Whitefish dominated the Western A divisionals and qualified six singles players and two doubles teams for this week's state championship in Lewistown.
The Bulldogs' Thiago Mariano, Aaron Fey, Seth Macalister and Jacob Schultz finished 1-2-3-4 in the boys' singles division. Mariano won every match in straight sets.
The Bulldogs' Doug Shyrock and Ben Ruffato won the boys' doubles division by downing Columbia Falls' Chase Averill and Brent Benkleman 6-0, 6-2 in the finals.
The Bigfork boys' team, which finished second behind the Bulldogs, will send two doubles teams to state.
Whitefish's Allison Fey won the girls' singles title with a straight-set win over Polson's Maggie Liebschultz in the finals.
Columbia Falls placed second behind Whitefish in the girls' division. The Wildkats will send singles player Logan Kavanagh and doubles champions Kristy Burnett and Megan DeRue to Lewistown. Burnett and DeRue were straight-set winners over Whitefish's Elizabeth Blair and Andrea Donohue in the final match.
The top four singles players and doubles teams qualified for the state championship.
