Dear Governor Bullock,

We are writing to request that you use all legal means to block or resist the placement of Syrian refugees in our great state at this time. While we have great sympathy for those impacted by the conflict in Syria, we believe that until current federal refugee admission guidelines and policies are strengthened, the threat posed to Montana is too great.

Montana is a very generous state and we are proud to welcome families of all backgrounds, however due to the recent terrorist attacks in Paris we want to make sure that every precaution is taken to protect the people of our state.

More than thirty other governors have taken steps to protect their states and we encourage you to do the same and direct any relevant state agency to resist efforts to place Syrian refugees in Montana until our concerns are addressed.

The U.S. Congress has recently moved forward with proposals to review and bolster the United States' refugee admissions process, and until those efforts are completed, we urge you to put the safety of Montana first and not facilitate the admission of Syrian refugees into the state.

Thank you for your consideration. We look forward to hearing your answer and working with you on this most important issue.

Sincerely,

Fred Thomas

Dean of State Senate
