HELENA - Clutch hitting propelled Kalispell to a pair of season-opening Western AA road victories. The Bravettes defeated Helena Capital 7-4 in the opener and Helena High 14-8 in the second game.

Sara Hanley and Steph Lanfear each hit two-run doubles to help Kalispell pull away in the first game. And in the finale, the Bravettes' scored 11 of their 14 runs with two outs. Erin Knutson connected for a bases-loaded triple in the second inning as Kalispell jumped out to a 5-1 advantage. After Helena High closed to within 5-3, Valissa Sneck delivered a blow with her bases-loaded double over the left fielder's head in the fourth. Kalispell went on to score six runs in the inning and take an 11-3 advantage.

Hanley finished the day 4-for-7 with a pair of doubles, a triple and three RBIs to pace Kalispell. Natalie Dachs picked up the wins in both games for her first action of the year.

At Bigfork, Class B's St. Ignatius rolled up 38 runs on 25 hits, scoring in every inning as it easily defeated the Class A Vals.

April Matt, Sierra Howlett and Bobbi Finley had four hits apiece, and Meghan Gallagher and Jaci Stewart each had three in the rout. The game was halted after five innings because of the 10-run rule.

The Bulldogs' big innings came in the second and fourth, when they scored 11 and 13, respectively. They scored in every inning, and every player that batted got at least one hit.

Erin Lasa and Jessa Ash each had a pair of hits to lead Bigfork.

€ Polson wins two

At Polson, the Polson Pirates notched a pair of Western A victories over Whitefish.

In the opener, the Pirates had an all-around solid effort to dispatch the Bulldogs 10-1, and a sloppy error-filled second game still saw Polson win 8-1.

Erin Turnage continued her strong return to the diamond. Polson's junior pitcher missed every game except for one last season with an illness, but hiked her mark to 4-0 with a three-hitter in the opener. She pitched a no-hitter on Friday in a 14-0 win over Browning.

Diana Davis and Ashley Meidinger each went 4-for-4 in the game to lead the Polson attack. Davis had two doubles and Meidinger had three RBIs in the first game.

In the second game, Polson trailed by one run early but four Whitefish errors helped the Pirates climb back in the game.

Jackie Johnson went 2-for-4 with a double to pace the Pirates and Amber Wock allowed only one hit on her way to the win.

Alesha St. Clair totalled nine RBIs in Polson's wins over Whitefish and Browning.

Columbia Falls took a 6-2 lead with a four-run fourth inning. Amber Moore had a run-scoring single in the frame.

Megan Cady went the distance and struck out nine to notch the win.

At Thompson Falls, Chelsea Gilfillan went 4-for-5 with three doubles and two RBIs and Missoula Loyola rallied from an 8-6 deficit to down Class B-C foe Thompson Falls in eight innings.

Loyola's Christine Grenier led off the eighth with a single. She scored on an RBI-single by Jos Weber to give Loyola an 9-8 lead. Later in the inning, Gilfillan hit a two-run single.

Rachel Link pitched the first five innings for Loyola, striking out nine. Catie Priddy (3-1) came on in the fifth and earned the victory

Thompson Falls had seven of its 12 hits in a six-run second inning. Robin Walker, Stephanie Pirker, Bethany Thompson and Jamie Kuzma all had two hits for Thompson Falls.
