With regard to the recent articles about showing videos not related to the subject matter, it is my opinion that the practice is inappropriate. A teacher has too little time within one classroom period to divert the students' attention from the curriculum.
Blessed be the teacher who is creative in presenting the subject in such a manner as to hold the students' immediate attention. It is knowledge of and enthusiasm for the subject matter which results in many positive outcomes. The tools available to a teacher are many and varied. However, it is the presentation by the teacher that is the key to capturing the students' interest, arousing curiosity about how the subject relates to them and motivating them to pursue the subject until it becomes a part of their knowledge construct.

Inspire the students but do so in the subject area of your expertise and for which the students have enrolled in your class.
