Candles at the alter in the darkness

The following churches announce their Christmas week services:

  • Living Savior will hold its first Christmas Eve service at its new location at 4616 Gharrett St. This traditional Christmas service will have recitations, special music, choral music, a Christmas message and candlelight singing under the theme: “Jesus became a child, so that we might be children of God.” The service begins at 6 p.m.
  • Holy Spirit Episcopal Church, 130 S. Sixth St. E., will celebrate the Festival Service of Nine Lessons and Carols at 7 p.m. Sunday. The service is made up of lessons alternating with the singing of congregational and choral carols. Other services include a Christmas Eve service especially geared toward families with young children at 4 p.m. Wednesday; and a Christmas Choral Eucharist at 10 p.m. Wednesday. There are no services on Christmas Day. Call 542-2167.
  • The Unitarian/Universalist Fellowship, 102 McLeod, will enjoy a holiday music service led by Beth Youngblood on Sunday followed by the Christmas potluck. The service begins at 10 a.m. and includes Sunday school for children. The Christmas Eve service will start at 6 p.m. and will be led by Greg Gallo.
