Book event, raffle will raise funds for ministry

A book swap and fundraiser for Valley School of Ministry and Leadership will be held 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday at Christian Assemble Foursquare Church, 1001 Cleveland St. There will be one thousand books from which to choose, plus local authors will be signing books and raffle tickets will be sold for prize drawings at 1 and 4 p.m.

Biannual service of memorial set for Sunday

The Spiritual Care Department at St. Patrick Hospital will hold its biannual memorial service at 1:30 p.m. Sunday in the Broadway Building Conference Center. Family members and the public are welcome to come celebrate the lives of patients who have died in recent months.

Parking is available in the Broadway Building underground structure, 500 W. Broadway.

Concert season kicks off with flute, piano at UCC

The October installment of the “2nd Wednesday: Sound, Soup & Sanctuary” concert series at the University Congregational Church in Missoula will be presented by tenor Thomas Hensley with Alice Williams accompanying on piano. The program will feature vocal works by Faure, Duparc, Verdi and Handel.

The 20-minute concert will begin at 12:10 p.m. Following the concert, there will be a soup-and-bread luncheon in the Fireside Room of the church. A free-will offering will be accepted to help defray costs.

This is the first 2nd Wednesday concert of the 2014-15 season. The church is located at 405 University Ave. Call 543-6952 for information.

Introduction to Buddhism, meditation starts Oct. 15

A six-week class titled “Introduction to Meditation and Buddhism” will be held 7-9 p.m. Wednesdays, Oct. 15-Nov. 19, at the Rocky Mountain Buddhist Center, 540 S. Second St. W. The cost is $60. For information or registration, call 721-5836 or 240-9655.

Healing Mass to be held today at St. Anthony

On Saturday, Oct. 4, at noon in St. Anthony Church, 217 Tremont St., there will be a Mass offered for all those seeking healing be it physical, spiritual, emotional, relational, or any area of concern. Special emphasis will be placed on intergenerational healing within the family.

The Mass will be preceded by a rosary at 11:30 a.m.

Plainchant, prayer service Sunday at Holy Spirit

Compline, the monthly ancient service of plainchant and contemplative prayer offered at Holy Spirit Episcopal Church, 130 S. Sixth St. E., will take place at 9 p.m. Sunday. The service will last no longer than a half hour. This will be a time of quiet, of meditation and prayer; the church will be candlelit. Music will be provided by members of the Holy Spirit Parish Choir.

First United Methodist women to sell pies

The United Methodist Women will be selling homemade apple pies for $12 in the church narthex following Sunday’s 10:30 a.m. worship service at First United Methodist Church, 300 E. Main St.

Apple pie sale Oct. 11 at Immaculate Conception

The Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Polson will be selling apple pies Saturday, Oct. 11, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. as part of the city’s apple festival. The cost is $5 for a small pie, $10 for a large one.
