South Hills Evangelical Church and Community Center (SHEC) has been selected to host this spring’s MERGE event. This free, bi-annual event is supported by local area churches and is intended for junior high through college students.
MERGE is a city wide-youth event engineered to connecting youth at a local level. The event is held once in the fall for a “See You at the Pole” rally, and once in the spring. MERGE gives local youth a place to come together and worship despite their school, grade or youth group.
The event was started by area youth pastors and has continued to grow since the first MERGE in 2009. The committee is working on making MERGE an exportable event so smaller communities can hosts MERGEs of their own.
“Last fall’s MERGE had over 400 kids show up, so we are hoping to break the 500 person mark this fall,” said Kyle Smith, the MERGE committee chair.
The spring MERGE will be held from 7-9 p.m. on Sunday, March 14 at SHEC Community Center, located at 1919 North Ave. West in Missoula. The event will have a message by Pastor Josh Yakos and worship by recording artist Leon Young. Young released his newest album, “Hope,” last summer, and Yakos has worked with local youth for over 11 years.
Though the event is geared for junior high through college, anyone is welcome to attend.
