Repairs to the Storm Castle Bridge in Gallatin Canyon are taking longer than expected so it won’t be re-opened to motorized traffic until May 21, according to the Custer Gallatin National Forest.
Traditionally, the Storm Castle Road opens to the public beyond the first gate on May 15.
The Storm Castle Bridge is located off Highway 191 in the Gallatin Canyon and provides access to the Storm Castle area (Forest Service Road No. 132). The bridge was closed in late April to all vehicle/motorized traffic for repairs, including reinforcing the bottom of the structure with carbon fiber panels and repairing the bridge surface. The reinforcement will strengthen the bridge’s integrity to allow for continued vehicle use and meet highway legal requirements.
Hikers and bikers can still use the bridge and are asked to park at the fishing access just south of the bridge.
