Missoulian State Bureau Armstrong to speak in Missoula on Monday
HELENA - People with mental illness can recover and enjoy life, says a well-known Massachusetts mental health advocate and consumer who is speaking at three forums in Montana next week.
Moe Armstrong, the consumer affairs director for Massachusetts's largest rehabilitative services provider, Vinfen Corp., is traveling the state to share his story of recovery from serious mental illness and help educate others with mental health problems about their potential.
"Recovery is learning self-maintenance and self-monitoring," Armstrong said in a press release, adding that the most important thing people do is what they do for themselves.
Armstrong, who suffers from schizophrenia, will speak Monday at the Missoula Public Library for a session that runs from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. He then travels to Helena on Tuesday and to Billings on Thursday.
Consumers, their families and mental health advocates are all encouraged to attend sessions during the tour. Consumers who travel from outside the host communities may qualify for a travel stipend. For more information contact Dena Froehlich at (406) 444-7209.
