SEATTLE - The Bon Marche department store chain is getting a name change.
Beginning Aug. 1, the stores will be known as The Bon-Macy's. It's a marketing move by The Bon's parent company, Federated Department Stores Inc.
The Missoula Bon Marche has operated under that name since 1978, when Federated bought out the Missoula Mercantile operation on Higgins Avenue and Front Street.
Federated officials said Thursday that they will rename all their department stores nationwide to incorporate the Macy's name.
The Seattle-based Bon has 48 stores in Washington, Oregon, Idaho, Montana and Wyoming.
As of Aug. 1, Federated's 42 Lazarus stores in the Midwest will be Lazarus-Macy's, and the five Goldsmithís stores in Tennessee will be Goldsmith's-Macy's. On Feb. 1, 2004, Burdine's will operate as Burdine's-Macy's at its 56 Florida stores.
Cincinnati-based Federated already has started the name change with its Rich's-Macyís stores in the South.
