WHITEFISH (AP) - A one-car crash near here early Monday killed one man and hospitalized two other people, the Montana Highway Patrol said.
One of three passengers, Russell Edwin Howell, 21, of Columbia Falls, died at the scene. The death raises Montana's highway fatality toll to 59 for the year, compared with 55 on May 5, 2002.
Officials also said Benjamin F. Myers, 47, of Conrad, was killed Saturday afternoon when his car ran off a road near Conrad and overturned, pinning him beneath it.
Myers wasn't wearing a seat belt, and alcohol and speed contributed to the crash, the patrol said. Myers' 36-year-old passenger was uninjured.
The patrol also said another fatal crash on Saturday will be counted as a traffic death even though it began when the driver slumped over the wheel because of a medical condition.
The 63-year-old Miles City man died when his tractor-trailer ran off a road near Hardin and crashed into a fence. Authorities said there was minimal damage to the truck.
