MULLAN, Idaho - The Forest Service has rejected further challenges to a plan by Look Out Ski Area to expand its operations on the Idaho-Montana border in the Panhandle.
The ski area is just off Interstate 90 between Saltese and Mullan, Idaho.
The Northern Region forester found concerns of environmental groups and resource users were adequately addressed by the Panhandle National Forest when it approved the expansion plan in February.
The ski area intends to add two lifts and open new terrain to skiers.
The Kootenai Environmental Alliance, The Lands Council and The Ecology Center and skier Chuck Sheroke of Coeur d'Alene, Idaho, challenged the expansion. They cited possible conflicts between cross-country skiers and snowmobiles and the impact on lynx habitat as well as the project's economic feasibility.
