It looked like the Farmers Market started a month early: Throngs of Missoulians packed into the new Good Food Store on Third Street for its grand opening Thursday.
"We just don't know who's working at other places in Missoula," store General Manager Cheryl Loberg said while handing out mocha cake near the front door. Clerks were scrambling to replentish the lines of shopping carts and baskets as new customers poured into the store.
The Good Food Store had stood for 20 years in a cramped store on Stephens and Kensington avenues. On Thursday, it moved into 27,000 feet of commercial space, complete with full-service deli, a reading nook and views of Mt. Sentinel.
The parking lot was jammed at 10:30 a.m. Cars clogged the parking lanes and spilled along the curbs of Third Street.
Good Food Store staff were serving up samples of their wares at 8:30 a.m. Opening festivities are scheduled to last through Sunday.
