Traffic was cut to one lane on the northbound side of the Higgins Avenue Bridge as Montana Department of Transportation inspectors checked its underside for wear and corrosion. Inspector Steve German said he was looking for cracked or corroded steel, decaying concrete and broken rivets. The bridges are inspected every two years. German spent three hours checking the Madison Avenue Bridge Wednesday morning. He predicted he would be finished with the Higgins inspection by 4 p.m.
