Rock ën Roll Summer, the summer music festival thatàs played Missoula for the past four years, is moving to Great Falls this summer.
Promoter Pat Haynes said he could not confirm a venue for the festival in Missoula for this summer. The festival typically features a half-dozen classic bands of the 1960s and 1970s and a hot rod car show.
Great Falls ExpoPark Manager Bill Ogg said Friday he had reached a verbal agreement with Haynes to hold the festival there August 22-23.
The Missoula County Fairgrounds board was reluctant to allow any use of the grounds 30 days before or after the mid-August Western Montana Fair. Fort Missoulaàs managers were equally resistant to allowing a festival on their grounds.
Haynes acknowledged a big part of the problem stemmed from previous managers of Rock ën Roll Daze, an earlier version of the festival that left unpaid bills and ill will with many in the community. Haynes took over promotion of the festival last year, and claimed it was successful.
"It seems like Missoula is pushing us out of town," Haynes said. "But I think wherever you take Rock ën Roll Daze, it will do well."
