Montana Rep. Denny Rehberg promised to support plans for a new veterans cemetery north of Big Sky High School during a tour of Missoula Saturday.
Rehberg said he didnít expect to need legislation to get the cemetery approved, but would be monitoring the land-swap process between the Montana Department of Natural Resources and Conservation and the state Veteranís Affairs Department. Getting the swap accomplished is key to winning funding from the federal Veterans Affairs cemetery program.
The Western Montana Veterans Cemetery Committee hopes to turn the 24-acre DNRC site into a cemetery and memorial for military veterans and their spouses. Missoulaís existing post cemetery is just 1.3 acres, and is restricted to career military personnel or those whoíve died in service.
