The Missoula County Attorney's Office is not charging two people arrested Tuesday in relation to a stabbing in Missoula.
Christoper Newrider, 31, and Valeria Thompson, 32, were booked into the Missoula County jail on Tuesday on suspicion of attempted deliberate homicide in the incident.
Police told the Missoulian that officers were called to the 1800 block of Sherwood Street on Monday night for a report of a stabbing, and found a 38-year-old man suffering from multiple stab wounds. Newrider and Thompson, who police said were identified as suspects by witnesses, were arrested at a motel on the 300 Block of East Broadway around 2 a.m. Tuesday.
Chief Deputy County Attorney Jason Marks said that in consultation with the detectives, they determined the incident was a "mutual combatant situation," and they were unable to rule out that it was justifiable use of force.
Newrider is still being held in relation to probation violations. In 2008, he received a 20-year prison sentence, with half of that time suspended, after pleading guilty to felony charges related to tying up and beating a gay man. He also has a prior burglary conviction from Cascade County.
