A firefighter from Missoula Rural Fire Department looks inside a passenger car that was involved in a crash Thursday afternoon on Reserve Street that sent five people to the hospital. Three people in the car were injured and had to be extricated and two people in a pickup truck were all injured. The crash closed the southbound lanes of Reserve Street.

The southbound lanes of Reserve Street at South Avenue were closed until 5 p.m. Thursday after a truck hit a car head-on, sending five people to the hospital.

Police Department Spokesman Travis Welsh said initial reports are the truck was going north in the southbound lanes and collided head-on with the car.

Three people were in the car and two were in the truck; all were taken to local hospitals.

By 5 p.m., all five lanes of Reserve Street were back open.

The crash occurred near the intersection of Benton Avenue. Southbound traffic was diverted off Reserve onto South Avenue while police investigated. 

The traffic was not stopped on the northbound lanes of Reserve.
