A Missoula man found dead near Russell and South Third streets appears to have died after crashing his bicycle, police Sgt. Collin Rose said Monday.
"If anybody saw him riding the bike there in that area, we would definitely be interested in talking to the person," said Rose, with the Missoula Police Department. "But right now we just don't have any indication of foul play."
The 56-year-old man was found dead with minor injuries early Sunday morning on a sidewalk near the intersection, according to law enforcement. Rose said the body had "road rash," and the man's bicycle was found nearby.
"It sounds like that was his normal mode of transportation. He wasn't a car driver," Rose said.
Investigators don't believe a car was involved in the wreck. The man had minor injuries, but police and the county coroner originally were investigating the death to determine whether it was medical, criminal or accidental.
Police said Monday they do not suspect foul play. Rose said it's possible the man, whose identity has not been released, wrecked his bicycle and then suffered a medical trauma.
Police are asking anyone who may have seen the incident to call 552-6399 or 721-4444. The call reporting the unresponsive male came in around 1 a.m. Sunday.
