A decomposed body found Saturday in the Alberton Gorge has been sent to the state Crime Lab in Missoula for identification.
“What I can tell you is it’s definitely a male corpse, definitely been there for some time, (and) not easily identifiable,” said Deputy Joseph Bettis of the Mineral County Sheriff’s Department.
The body was found at roughly 2:30 p.m. on rocks along the Clark Fork River about a mile upstream from the Triple Bridges on Interstate 90. It was discovered by an “anonymous fisher person,” said Bettis, who acted as coroner on the call.
Bettis said he was not aware of anyone missing in the area, “but we’re checking it with some missing persons out of Missoula,” he said. “Sometimes things happen in Missoula and wash up here.”
The body of a 19-year-old male who disappeared after jumping off the Madison Street footbridge in Missoula on May 16 has yet to be located.
