The Missoula County coroner has released the name of the 30-year-old man killed on U.S. Highway 93 on Sunday evening when his motorcycle crossed over the center line and hit a northbound pickup truck head-on.
Raymond Gene Cook of Missoula died from blunt-force injuries suffered in the crash, Missoula County coroner Mike Dominick said Monday. Cook was pronounced dead at the scene.
Authorities responded to the crash just north of the wildlife crossing near the Grey Wolf Peak Casino about 6:30 p.m.
After the crash, the pickup truck caught fire and was fully engulfed in flames, but the adult male driver, the only occupant of the vehicle, was able to get out before emergency crews arrived.
The pickup driver was examined by medical responders at the scene, but Montana Highway Patrol Trooper Nicholas Navarro said he did not require transportation to a hospital.
Traffic on Highway 93 was closed in both directions north of Missoula until shortly before 9 p.m., when the road reopened.
