The Montana Highway Patrol said a Polson woman died Tuesday after a crash on U.S. Highway 93 near the town of Ravalli north of Missoula.

The crash was reported around 3 p.m. Trooper Wayne Bieber said the early indication is that a Subaru driven by the woman — who is believed to be in her 60s — was heading northbound and crossed over into oncoming traffic around mile marker 25, hitting a southbound Toyota FJ Cruiser.

The woman, who was lone in the Subaru, was pronounced dead at the scene. Her name was not released.

Two occupants of the Toyota were taken to Missoula for treatment.

Traffic was backed up for hours while workers cleared the scene and conducted their investigation. Bieber said by 7 p.m. the road had reopened.
