FLORENCE – A Florence woman died of a heart attack Tuesday while horseback riding in the Bitterroot National Forest’s Larry Creek area.
Gertrude Hanson, 68, was found by U.S. Forest Service employees marking trees in the area at about 1 p.m., said Ravalli County Undersheriff Perry Johnson.
Hanson was riding by herself at the time of her death.

Hanson’s horse was found near her body.
“Her body was orientated uphill,” Johnson said. “We believe she was riding in.”
She was found less than a half mile from the Larry Creek horse trailer parking area.
