Guiding geese

Noreen Humes, left, and Danielle Lattuga herd two geese and a gosling toward the Clark Fork River after the birds wandered into the downtown area Thursday. Humes said she noticed the geese as they walked by her office at the Missoula Downtown Association on East Main Street, and that when they appeared to be headed deeper toward the heart of downtown she started trying to urge the birds toward the river. Lattuga and two other women, Kara Shapiro and Kathy Golie, joined in the effort, and Humes said it took about an hour to walk the geese to the river as traffic stopped and people took pictures. The two geese and the gosling picked up their pace when they saw the Clark Fork and swam safely away.
