Helicopter crashes at Missoula airport; no injuries

A Minuteman Aviation helicopter crashed just outside the airfield fence at Missoula International Airport shortly before 4 p.m. Friday.

Two people were on board and two ambulances were sent to the scene on the airport’s southern fringe. Both passengers refused treatment, according to Brian Ellestad, the airport’s deputy director.

“I think they were fairly low to the ground,” Ellestad said.

Missoula Rural Fire also responded to the scene. Ellestad said there was a small fire that airport personnel extinguished. He didn’t know if the fire came from the helicopter or the grass at the scene.
