The woman who died early Sunday after an apparent hit-and-run near Lowell Elementary School in Missoula was Rebecca Grace Romero, 22, who graduated last month from the University of Montana.
Romero, originally from Stockton, California, had just earned her bachelor's degree in wildlife biology, according to UM graduation records.
Missoula County Sheriff and Coroner T.J. McDermott identified Romero Monday morning. In a short press release, the Sheriff's Office said the City of Missoula Police Department is still investigating the details surrounding the case.
"Please keep this family in your prayers during such a tragic time," the release said.
Romero died after she apparently was hit by a vehicle in the Westside neighborhood near Lowell School early Sunday morning, according to Missoula police.

Police Sgt. Jerry Odlin said officers were called to Phillips Street at 2:26 a.m. for a report of an injured woman in the road, and found Romero had died.
A 26-year-old man, Daniel Joseph Grady, was arrested hours later after officers served a search warrant at an apartment building on North Russell.
Police used the SWAT team in apprehending Grady. Sgt. Travis Welsh said the decision to use the team was made because of Grady's use of weapons in a prior case and that he has "expressed his dislike of law enforcement."Â
According to The Montana Standard, Grady was arrested twice in one weekend in Butte and charged with felonies in July 2017 after incidents in which he allegedly slashed the tire of a man's car after an argument and threatened another man with a shotgun, then chased him with his vehicle.
Welsh said Grady was arrested without issue on Sunday.
He is being held on suspicion of negligent homicide and failure to remain at the scene where a person was killed and will likely appear in court on Tuesday.
