Missoula police arrested 12 people in the city for allegedly drinking and driving between Friday night and Monday morning.
“That’s the highest in recent memory that I’ve seen,” said public information officer Sgt. Travis Welsh.
Those arrests only include those in the city, and not DUI arrests made by the Missoula County Sheriff’s Office or Montana Highway Patrol. For comparison, 12 is also the number of people arrested for DUI across the entire county over the four-day New Year’s weekend this year.

The 12 arrests by city police included that of Emily Bess Levens, who is charged with hitting and killing a 31-year-old man on Friday night.
Welsh said he didn’t know how to account for such a high number of arrests, but noted that half of the dozen DUIs arrests were made from Friday night into Saturday morning. The annual Winter BrewFest took place in Caras Park on Friday evening.
