SPOKANE - Vera M. Hinman Yates went to her heavenly home Thursday, May 29, 2008, after 98 years of an active and rewarding life. She lived most of her adult life in Spokane and passed away at Riverview Care Center.
She was born in Victor Sept. 28, 1909, where she spent her childhood. As a young adult, she was a telephone operator in Victor and Missoula.
A longtime member of Lidgerwood Presbyterian Church, she helped with Meals on Wheels and other church activities. She was a volunteer with Washington Children's Home Society, active in Eastern Star, Sorosis Club, and was an avid bridge and pinochle player with various groups.
Vera was preceded in death by her husband Stanley D. Yates and infant daughter Karen. She also was preceded in death by her sibling Hinman brothers Kenneth, Harlan, Gerald and Leslie, and sister Mina Presta Roseth.
She is survived by sister-in-law Colleen Hinman and numerous nephews and nieces who dearly admired and loved her.
Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, June 4, at Riverview Terrace in Spokane and graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 7, at Victor Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made in memory of Vera to Lidgerwood Presbyterian Church, 4449 N. Nevada, Spokane, WA.
Riplinger Funeral Home of Spokane is entrusted with cremation.
