ARLEE - Verda Leone Stinger (Willard), beloved wife, mother, sister, daughter and friend, passed away Sunday, July 19, 2009, after a brief battle with cancer.
She was born Oct. 25, 1945, to Jess and Betsy Willard in Fullerton, Calif.
Verda met John Donovan in Long Beach, Calif. They married and had two sons, Jess in 1967 and Ian in 1970. She moved to Montana with Terry Simkins in the summer of 1972, where she fell in love with her favorite view, the famous Mission Mountain Garden Wall. She lived in St. Ignatius when she had her third son, Keith, in 1974.
Verda met her beloved husband, Jim Stinger, in 1988 and they were married in the winter of 1990.
Verda was the kind of person we could all aspire to be like - loving, caring, forgiving and sharing. Everyone who ever met her or knew her loved her and was touched by her light. She was a beautiful woman who welcomed everyone with open, loving arms. She was the most spiritual person her husband ever met. And his family felt that if they ever did split up, they would get rid of him and keep her, they loved her so much. She was an amazing cook! She had a knack for making incredibly delicious meals in no time at all, sometimes, out of virtually nothing. But what Verda loved to do most of all was dig in the dirt. Her trees, flowers and garden beds she planted will bloom each spring for many years to come.
Verda is survived by her loving husband, Jim Stinger; her father, Jess Willard; her three sons, Jess Donovan, Ian Donovan (Kristen DuCharme) and Keith Simkins (Gena Simkins); her brother, Alan Willard (Jeanette Willard); her sister, Eileen Swett (Rick Swett); her nephews, Greg, Brian and Kevin Willard (Erin), Jason and Jess Walters, and Logan Megahan; neices, Rita Carlton, Julie Walters, Margaret Swarts, Ashley and Alison Megahan; grandchildren, Nic Roark, Adrienne Carrol, Andria and Siera Donovan, Jordan and Chloe DuCharme, Ayana and Jevan Simkins; mother-in-law, Myrtle Stinger; sister-in-law, Sheryl Steele; brother-in-law, Mike Stinger; and many other family and friends too numerous to name. We will all take part of her with us on our journey. Her many lessons of love, thoughtfulness and forgiveness, you will be missed Verda.
