MISSOULA - Gwendolyn Vera Jemison, 82, of Missoula passed away Tuesday, June 3, 2008, at Village Health Care Center.
Gwen was born April 9, 1926, in Hall, to Walter and Vera Olson. As a young girl, she lived with her family on a ranch near Drummond, where she attended school.
On June 18, 1946, Gwen married Philip E. Jemison, who worked for the FAA. They moved 18 times during his employment.
After Phil's retirement, they enjoyed traveling. They were married for 48 years and had two children, a daughter Charla and a son Edward.
Gwen enjoyed square-dancing, mall-walking, gardening, cooking and raising her family. In her later years, she worked at Kmart, retiring in 1984.
Preceding her in death were her husband Philip; son Edward; sister June Hutchins; and parents Walter and Vera Olson.
Survivors include her daughter Charla (Morgan) Evans of Downey, Idaho, and their children Justin (Amy) Evans, Carmelle (Justin) Wilde, Benjamin (Shayla) Evans, SSG. Joseph (Nakeitha) Evans and Jenette (Jaron) Holmes; daughter-in-law Cheryl Jemison and her children, Eric and Christina Jemison; great-grandchildren Cameron, Emily, Elizabeth, Rylie and Lakoda; and best friend Margaret Barnett.
Funeral services will be at noon Saturday, June 7, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 3050 South Avenue W., Missoula, with Bishop James Wickel conducting. There will be a luncheon following in the Cultural Hall.
Dedication and burial will be at 3 p.m. Saturday in the Valley Cemetery in Drummond. The family suggest memorials be donated to the charity of your own choosing.
