MISSOULA – Donald W. Allen died Monday, March 29, 2010.
He was born to Clara (Duerrwaecter) and William J. Allen in Whitefish Bay, Wis., on March 22, 1924.
He grew up and went to school in Waterford, Wis. He was the oldest of six children.
In May 1943, he married June L. Fisher in Wauwatosa, Wis. In July of that year, he was drafted into the Army, and went into basic training at Camp Callen, Calif. In January 1944 he came home on furlough, for the imminent birth of his daughter, Kathleen. But she was born about a week after he left. He was in New York waiting to be sent overseas. He was in the D-Day invasion. He was in Germany when the war ended and arrived home Dec. 7, 1945. In March 1947, his son Donald W. Allen Jr. was born and that year we moved back to Waterford, where he worked as a machinist. In July 1949, his son Timothy C. Allen was born.
In June 1966, we moved to Montana with our son Tim. Don worked at the Bonner mill and as a machinist most of the years. He retired in 1989.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his son, Don Jr. (1968); son, Tim (2004); his brothers, Wayne Allen and William Allen; and sister, Shirley Long.
He is survived by wife of 66 years, June; daughter, Kathleen Bender; daughter-in-law, Janice Allen; brother, James Allen; sister, Betty Chojnachi, both of Wisconsin; five grandchildren, Bridgette Bender, Brenda Effinger, Debbie Dietz, Heather Olean, Jerod Allen; and nine great-grandhchildren.
