Dorothy was born to Alice and Dewey Carlson on April 14, 1937, in Missoula. She graduated from Hellgate High School. Dorothy married Ray Hebert on Oct. 12, 1963, after they designed and built their house together. They just celebrated their 51st anniversary.
After graduation, Dorothy started working for Mountain Bell as a telephone operator. She worked for the phone company her entire career. She retired after 31 years. She has belonged to their Pioneer Club for many years.
She and Ray were great hunters. Dorothy belonged to the Missoula Rifle Club and won numerous trophies for her shooting abilities. She enjoyed skiing and other outdoor activities including many hours spent in their large garden. She loved animals and always had a dog or cat by her side. She and Ray squared danced for several years. Her favorite pastime was reading; she loved and read all types of books. After retirement, she joined the Missoula Area Wood Carvers and made many beautiful pieces.
For many years, Dorothy entertained a large family and many friends during the holidays. She enjoyed cooking and tried new dishes using fresh produce from her garden.
Dorothy is survived by her husband, Ray Hebert of Pinegrove; sister and brother-in-law, Peg and Hank Schmuff of Florida; sister-in-law, Eva Chilcoat and brother-in-law Frank (Arliss) Hebert, all of Pinegrove; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
