MISSOULA - Eleanor L. Hagestad, 88, of Missoula, passed away on Saturday, May 8, 2010, at the Beehive Homes.
She was born on July 19, 1921, in Missoula, to Kathryn and Nicholas Burger.
She was married to Wally Hagestad on April 11, 1942, in Butte.
In her younger years, she belonged to the Women of the Moose. She was a longtime member of Holy Family Parish.
She was preceded in death by her mother and father; her husband Wally in 1996; sisters Lorraine and Alice; and brothers Jack and John.
She is survived by her six children, Dan (Connie) Hagestad, Carole Maier, Pattie Superneau, Debbie Tollefson, Angel (Alvin) Brester, and Collette (Doug) Irvine; 15 grandchildren, Regan Hagestad, Corinna (Bruce) Montgomery, Trevor (Bess) Maier, Tanya (Jeff) Siegel, Justina Maier, Paul Marsh, Heather (Roy) Adams, Ryan Tollefson, Nicole Tollefson, Danelle (Ryan) Miller, Stephanie (Barry) Hodges, Kenley Brester, Jordan, Jessica and Taylor Irvine; 10 great-grandchildren, Dustin, Shae, Erin, Kendal, Tanner, Sierra, Treyton, Kaden, Taylor and Cami; sisters, Dorothy Baber, Shirley Stickney and Judy Bulletts; and several nieces and nephews.
Mother loved traveling by train, dancing, country music, lunches with her sisters and friends, doing puzzles, sewing by hand, playing bingo and keno and collecting angels. Her greatest love was spending time with her family.
During the last few months, Mother told us she had "an angel here on earth," her granddaughter Heather. In Heather's words, "you were the most wonderful grandma ever." We love you, Mother.

Family will greet friends 7-8 p.m. Wednesday, May 12, at Garden City Funeral Home. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 1 p.m. Thursday, May 13, at the Blessed Trinity Catholic Church. Interment will follow in New St. Mary Catholic Cemetery. A reception will follow the graveside service back in the church's social hall.
