SPOKANE, Wash. — Elfriede (Friede) Pennington, 75, passed away from natural causes at Sacred Heart Hospital in Spokane on Monday, Feb. 22, 2010.
Friede was born in Hielbronn, Germany, on Aug. 15, 1934, to Albert and Paula Terezia Kossmann. Friede finished her high school graduation and was working at an Army barracks when she met her husband, A.G. Pennington. Friede and A.G. were married on Jan. 5, 1956, and were transferred to the United States, where Friede learned to speak, read and write English on her own and earned her citizenship in 1964.
She was a loving mother to her five children and is preceded in death by her husband A.G.; her daughter Sandra; and granddaughter Paula Terezia.
She is survived by her brother Erich Kossmann of Hielbronn; and her children, Karen and Dee Musgrave of Washington, Marianne and Daniel Kulawinski of Missoula, Frances and Michael Becker of South Dakota, Joy Pennington of Kalispell, and Larry and Pamela Pennington of Missoula; seven grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at 4 p.m. Saturday, March 6, at Sunset Memorial.
